BUYER BEWARE

As much of a homebody as I am, my husband and kiddos too for that matter, we do find ourselves out and about quite a bit. Trying to make healthy choices on the go for the whole family isn’t too hard, but it does take some practice, effort, and lots of trial and error. I’m dedicating this page to Buyer Beware situations Ive encountered when it comes to deceitful products with ingredients that are not what we think we are getting when we order food and drink on the go. I ask for your participation also, if there are any situations you run into when buying food/drink/experiences that aren’t what you are hoping for especially when it comes to your health. I’ll add to these as I run across them...please feel free to leave your “buyer beware” experiences in the comments. **** I am having trouble getting Blogger to help me put a comment section on this page so please if you have anything you would like to add, message me @ uncomplicatedbecca@gmail.com or DM me on IG and Ill add them for you with credit to you. 1. Coffee!!! My newest favorite thing to do during a HOT HOT Texas summer is swing through a drive through for a nice mid afternoon iced coffee.  A simple order of a large iced coffee should have been innocent enough. I didn’t say please add sweetener, or flavoring, or cream... I just thought if I order a large iced coffee I would be getting a large cup full of ice & freshly brewed coffee. BUYER BEWARE, we have yet to find a coffee shop where you can order an iced coffee and it be just that. For a large iced coffee at popular coffee chains, you are actually getting ice, coffee, AND potentially, 30 grams of added sugar!!!! The daily recommendation for added sugar per day, is no more than 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men BTW.  Sadly you actually have to ask for UNSWEETENED iced coffee if all you want is ice and coffee. My personal go-to, so there is no misunderstanding, is a medium/grande iced Americano with a splash of heavy cream. It’s also my hot drink of choice. 15 calories without the cream about 125 with. No carbs without the cream only 3g with. And 0g of sugar either way.

2. Cauliflower Crust Pizza- two things you should know about me, 1. I love pizza, and tacos, but boy do I love pizza.  And 2. I live a gluten free lifestyle. I love that more and more people are coming out with a pre-made version of cauliflower pizza crust. I tried and failed so many times with the homemade versions from Pinterest but I  never get a solid product. No matter how much cheese I added. Recently I found a cauliflower frozen pizza that I LOVE! And also a couple popular pizza chains that are offering (delicious) cauliflower pizza crust too. Great news for those of us low carb living or gluten free existing right...well sort of. I have become a nutrition label maniac and in my research of said pizza crusts, I’m finding that most are made with some variant of flour. Granted they are gluten free flours i.e. rice, almond, oat etc...  when made this way they taste amazing but only cut about 10 calories on average per slice and you are not getting a low carb option. It is a lower carb option packed with veggies so that’s a win, but BUYER BEWARE, it is not a low carb choice. Also make sure you are reading or asking what type of flour is in the crust, there is a chance its not gluten free either.

3. Chocolate. My other favorite food group. BUYER BEWARE for those living gluten free, there are a few brands of dark chocolate out there using BARLEY MALT POWDER to make their delicious decadent chocolate... Read those labels, and ask all the questions. Oh! And wheat is in some licorice and gummy type candies, like Red Vines, Twizzlers and Sour Patch Kids. Don’t ask me how I know this...
